KTB NEEDS YOU TO BE THE JUDGE!
KTB is looking for volunteers to help judge the GCAA and KTB Award entries on March 27 and 28. Judging is a great way to get more involved with KTB, meet fellow members from across the state, and get inspiration for next year’s awards! Awards judging applications can be found at www.ktb.org/awards (due March 7).
KTB AFFILIATE ANNUAL DUES, REPORT, RECOGNITAION, AND SURVEY
You should have received your Affiliate Annual Dues invoice in the mail earlier this month and an email from Anne Cunic with links to the Annual Report, Affiliate Survey, and Recognition form. If you did not receive the email you can access the report, survey and recognition form online at www.ktb.org/affiliates. The deadline for the Affiliate Dues and Annual Report has been extended to March 14. The Affiliate Recognition and Survey are each due by March 31. GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP UPDATE
The kick-off of Great American Cleanup (GAC) is less than one month away! We know many of you are busy planning your GAC and Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off events – we wish you the best of luck! KTB will be posting an event calendar, 2008 planning guide, updated GAC sponsor logos, sponsor programs, and more later this month (as they become available). KTB will also send emails regarding the shipment of supplies as we receive updates from Keep America Beautiful. If you have not registered your Trash-Off event (April 5) already, please make sure to do so; we want to ensure we include everyone in the state’s single largest one-day cleanup event! TEXAS WATERWAY CLEANUP PROGRAM FALL RESULTS AND
EARLY REGISTRATION PRIZE WINNERS
Thank you to everyone who organized a Fall 2007 cleanup event. Look at what you and your fellow volunteers were able to do for Texas waterways!
Texas Waterway Cleanup Program Fall 2007 Results* (July-December, 2007)
142 cleanup and water quality education eventswere supported.
11,568 Texans participated in these events.
5,429 volunteers were younger than18 years old.
565 miles of waterways were cleaned by volunteers.
More than 264,199 pounds of debris were collected.
*Results were obtained from the 112 wrap-up reports submitted to Keep Texas Beautiful.
KTB would also like to thank everyone who signed up for the Spring Season of the Texas Waterway Cleanup Program by the early registration deadline! Thanks to your commitments we were able to exceed our goal of 60 early registrations.
Congratulations to the following organizations on winning the random prize drawing for early registrations. Each group will receive 50 volunteer safety vests and two bottles of Ivy Block.

DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS SCHOLARSHIP
The 2008 Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarships, sponsored by Raytheon, recognize the achievements of high-school seniors who have taken leadership roles to prevent litter in their schools and/or communities. One $3,000 scholarship and two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded this spring to students planning to pursue a two or four-year degree at a university or college in Texas. Seniors can write either one of two essays to try and earn a scholarship. Applications are due by Friday, April 4. For more information and to apply visit www.dontmesswithtexas.org. KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL GOLF CLASSIC
KTB is hitting the greens for a fun and friendly fundraising event this spring! The 2008 Keep Texas Beautiful Golf Classic will be held Monday, March 10 at the beautiful Yaupon course at The Hills of Lakeway Country Cluboutside Austin. After the tournament, event participants and their guests will enjoy a wonderful dinner and exciting prizes presented by special guest Chairman Warren Chisum. Bring your mayor, local representative, or other community leaders to enjoy a day with other state representatives and KTB supporters and sponsors! ORRECTION - KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL NATIONAL AWARDS
In the January issue of Leadership Update Pearland was left off the list of Affiliate Award winners. Pearland received a Distinguished Service Citation (previously recognized, 50,001-200,000) from Keep America Beautiful. Congratulations to all 2007 KAB award winners!
