Conference Raffle – Come ready to purchase your tickets for this year’s fundraising raffle. The raffle, which replaces the evening silent auction, will take place throughout conference and offer great prizes including two round-trip tickets from Southwest Airlines, tickets to Six Flags, gift baskets, recycling bins, gift cards and more.
Speaker Highlight – Dr. Jerry Teplitz (Friday, June 27) – Dr. Teplitz’s presentation “Finding Your Happy Place - Keys for Preventing Stress & Burnout” focuses on giving you an understanding and increased ability to take charge of the stressful situations you encounter at home and work. TEXAS WATERWAY CLEANUP PROGRAM FALL REGISTRATION
Keep Texas Beautiful is gearing up to kick off the fall season of the Texas Waterway Cleanup Program (TWCP). Whether you’re planning a huge community-wide lake or river cleanup and education event or assisting neighborhoods organize small creek, pond, and stream cleanups, the program is here to help you. We are once again pleased to partner with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to offer FREE supplies such as gloves, trash bags, sunscreen, posters, youth giveaway items, and more for projects cleaning up in or around fresh water waterways.
If you are planning to host a Waterway Cleanup event anytime between July – December 2008, we ask you to please register by the early deadline of Friday, August 1 . Registrations received by this date will be entered into a prize drawing to win one of five sets of 50 volunteer safety vests and two bottles of Ivy Block (approximate value: $225/set). Additionally, if you haven’t turned in your wrap-up formfor spring 2008 events, please do so as soon as possible so we may include your efforts in our results.
DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Congratulations to the 2008 Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarship winners. Chosen from approximately 500 applicants across the state, these litter-savvy high school seniors were recognized for the leadership roles they took to prevent litter in their schools or communities. The scholarships are intended for high school seniors planning to pursue a two or four-year degree at a Texas university or college.

DOW HELPS SUPPORT GREEN EVENTS
Thanks to sponsorship from The Dow Chemical Company, Keep Texas Beautiful is excited to announce the support of three large community events as “Green Events” this summer and fall. Participating affiliates* will be given banners, signs, recycling bins and liners, litter grabbers, and gloves to help reduce the amount of litter generated at events and recover recyclable materials from the waste stream. *Affiliates in Good Standing status or better near Dow’s Freeport offices were eligible to apply.
