AWARDS TIPS – Don’t wait until the last minute to get your awards applications ready! Start planning now with these great tips:
Talk to previous winners and read project synopses online . For a list of winners and synopses, visit www.ktb.org/awards. Email Anne Cunic or call 1-800-CLEAN-TX for winners’ contact information.
Organize information. Use file folders to keep track of newspaper articles and sample materials and set up computer files to arrange photos and track programs, volunteers, and financial information.
Start thinking of a board member and/or volunteer to proofread your application. The more eyes you can get to look over your application, the better!

SHARE KTB PUBLICATIONS WITH YOUR BOARD, STAFF, COMMITTEES, AND MORE!
See a great story in Grassroots about the work Texans are doing to keep their communities beautiful? Encourage those in your local network to download the online version, found at www.ktb.org/newsletters. Want to keep board, staff, and committee members up to date on the latest KTB programs, events, and deadlines? Email them the web link for the current Leadership Update each time you get your copy in the mail, available at www.ktb.org/affiliates/leadershipupdate.html.

KTB STAFF CHANGE – LAURA TURNER WELLS
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the resignation of Laura Turner Wells, KTB Programs & Youth Coordinator, effective October 31. Laura has been a valuable addition to the KTB staff for more than two years. She was offered a wonderful opportunity to join The University of Texas as a Development Associate in the School of Social Work. KTB wishes her continued success in her position with UT.

For an interim period, please direct requests or inquiries to the following:

TEXAS WATERWAY CLEANUP PROGRAM UPDATE
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has donated five educational EnviroScape units to KTB for use in the Texas Waterway Cleanup Program (TWCP). EnviroScape units are large, eye-catching landscape models (approximately 25" x 30" x 5") that provide an interactive learning experience for youth. Each EnviroScape discusses pollution sources and prevention and covers a different waterway theme (Urban, Bay, Landfill, Hazardous Waste, and Wetlands). Every unit includes a user's guide with glossary which provides easy-to-use guidelines to aid an instructor, group leader, or facilitator in presenting a demonstration. Units are valued at approximately $1,000 each and provide a wonderful outreach opportunity for your affiliate to educate youth in the community. EnviroScapes will be available for use by TWCP participants beginning next season (January-July). We ask that you pay the shipping cost, as well as a minimal fee to help cover regular wear and tear, at a total cost of $50. To learn more about the activities, visit www.enviroscapes.com.

Look for Spring TWCP registration forms to be posted online soon, sent in enews, and enclosed in the December Leadership Update.

Still haven’t sent in your Fall 2007 TWCP wrap-up report? Please do so ASAP so that we may include your achievements in our totals!
