2008 GCAA & KTB AWARDS DEADLINES CHANGE
In an effort to better meet the needs of KTB affiliates, we are pleased to announce that applications for next year’s Governor’s Community Achievement Awards (GCAA) and KTB Awards will be due in February 2008. We hope this deadline will come at a less hectic time of year and allow you to easily report results from one calendar year. Results from January – May 2007 used in this past year’s applications will be permitted in the 2008 applications during this transition period. Look for applications and information on any other changes to the awards process to come later this fall. Note: Ruthe Jackson Youth Leadership Awards and Sadie Ray Graff Education Leadership Awards will still be due in May.
2008 GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP & TRASH-OFF REGISTRATION
It’s never too early to start planning those springtime cleanup and beautification activities! Keep America Beautiful has requested a list of 2008 registrations from Texas groups by mid-October to help gauge needed supplies. To encourage affiliates to register early, KTB is holding a prize drawing for all registration forms received by October 15, 2007. One winner will receive 15 Take Care of Texas t-shirts to use at local events. A registration form is enclosed and can be found at www.ktb.org/programs/gac. We realize that you might not have all decisions made at this time, but please register now and we will work with you later regarding more details. Please contact Katie at katie@ktb.org or 1-800-CLEAN-TX with any questions.
TEXAS RECYCLES DAY – NOVEMBER 15
“It all comes back to you”
Texas Recycles Day (TRD) 2007 is just around the corner! This year’s theme is “It All Comes Back to You.” Keep Texas Beautiful encourages affiliates, businesses, schools, and individuals to participate in TRD and help motivate their community members to make recycling part of their everyday lives. The Recycling Alliance of Texas has volunteered to manage the program (formerly run by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality), and KTB is pleased to partner with The Alliance to promote this statewide event. This new partnership will provide KTB affiliates with additional opportunities to interact with Alliance members and to educate Texans on the importance of recycling and reuse. More information will be posted soon at www.texasrecyclesday.org and www.recycletx.com.

BE RECOGNIZED WITH A TEXAS ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARD
All too often homegrown heroes go unrecognized. Yet, their efforts to protect natural resources in Texas are increasingly critical to the well-being of our beautiful state. Do you know an individual, organization, company, or community that has worked tirelessly to tackle environmental challenges? Has your affiliate introduced an outstanding project or program this year? Nominate them for a Texas Environmental Excellence Award (TEEA), presented by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The TEEA program honors the state's most outstanding waste reduction and pollution prevention projects. Keep El Paso Beautiful received a first place award last year for its community tool shed program. Enter your project today at www.teea.org. Deadline for submissions is October 19, 2007. Questions? Call 512-239-3150 or email awards@tceq.state.tx.us.
