Keep Texas Beautiful Elects
New Officers and Board Members  

Lynn Lantrip of Rockwall Elected President
Rebecca Hays of Austin, John L. Howard, Jr. of Austin,
Carol Morton of Athens Elected to Board of Directors

(Austin, Texas) – Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement organization, elected officers and new members to the Board of Directors at its annual meeting on June 30 in Houston. Lynn Lantrip from Waste Management, Inc. was elected as President, while Rebecca Hays from Goodwill Industries of Central Texas; John L. Howard, Jr., from Vinson & Elkins L.L.P; and Carol Morton from Keep Athens Beautiful, were each elected as board members.

Lynn Lantrip has served on the KTB Board of Directors from 1988 to1997 and from 2002 to present. He is currently on the organizations Executive Committee, and for the past year, he has chaired the Leadership Committee. Mr. Lantrip entered into the environmental services business in 1973 with Waste Management, where he still works today, serving as the company’s Director of Public Sector Services. He has assisted many Texas communities with the formation of KTB and Keep America Beautiful programs during his time with Waste Management. Before joining the KTB Board, Mr. Lantrip worked with Clean Houston and participated in the formation of the Clean Builder Program, which eventually went nationwide. He and his wife Laura live in Rockwall, Texas.

Rebecca Hays currently serves as the Recycling Manager for Goodwill Industries of Central Texas where she coordinates recycling and solid waste operations and manages a successful residential and commercial e-waste recycling program. Ms. Hays has previously worked as an environmental consultant, planner in the Solid Waste Services Department for the City of Austin, and teacher in the Round Rock Independent School District.

John L. Howard, Jr. has served on both the Fund Development and Government Partnership Committees for KTB and has volunteered his time to multiple Keep America Beautiful projects. He is currently a partner at Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. in Austin. Mr. Howard has previously served as the Federal Environmental Executive where he worked to promote sustainable environmental stewardship throughout the federal government. He has also been on Boards and Councils for the Austin Parks Foundation, Texas State Society, and St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (Austin) and volunteers for many community and school events.

Carol Morton has been the Executive Director of Keep Athens Beautiful for two and a half years and is currently a Waste In Place curriculum trainer to Texas educators. The Waste In Place curriculum is designed for students Kindergarten through eighth grade and addresses the problem of waste and its disposal alternatives and emphasizes responsible solid waste handling practices through hands-on activities. Mrs. Morton brings over 25 years of non-profit experience to KTB. She has worked with the YMCA, Food Bank – Rio Grande Valley, and was a Volunteer Chapter Manager for the American Red Cross for three years.
