Keep El Paso Beautiful to Host "Clean Community" Meetings

Austin, Texas – Keep El Paso Beautiful (KEPB), one of the state’s leading non-profit environmental organizations, is spreading its wings, as well as its message of being a clean community to communities surrounding El Paso during two upcoming meetings set for March 6th and March 8th.

KEPB is an affiliate member of Keep Texas Beautiful and has won numerous state awards for its unique programs and projects that involve thousands of citizens each year to help make El Paso the cleanest, most beautiful city in the state.

"We’re very proud of the citizens in El Paso," said Keith Floyd, KEPB executive director. "Without the enthusiasm of our citizens, we wouldn’t have had the successes we’ve had in recent years. Picking up litter along our highways and riverbanks isn’t the most glamorous volunteer work. But it has to be done until we can educate every single citizen not to litter and not to dump."

"There are so many communities surrounding El Paso that have wanted to develop a program of their own," continued Floyd. "That’s why we’ve decided to host these two regional meetings in conjunction with Keep Texas Beautiful. The message is that every community needs to be involved. Every individual can learn to recycle and not to litter and that’s the message we want to spread."

In additional to Keep El Paso Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful, co-hosts of the meetings include the office of State Senator Eliot Shapleigh, the Rio Grande Council of Governments, and the Texas Department of Transportation El Paso District Office. The March 6th meeting is for the communities of Anthony, Canutillo, Horizon City, Socorro, San Elizario, and Clint. The March 8th meeting is for the communities in the Alpine area and includes VanHorn, Sierra Blanca, Marfa, Fort Davis, Lajitas, Presido, and Pecos. The meeting will be held on the campus of Sul Ross State University, Conference Room A in the new university center. For meeting times, please contact Keith Floyd, Executive Director, Keep El Paso Beautiful at 915-546-6742. The meetings are free and open to the public.
