Keep Texas Beautiful Urges Texarkana To Buy Recycled

AUSTIN -- On Thursday, November 6, representatives from Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission will be in Texarkana to garner support for the state's premier recycling event, Texas Recycles Day. Texas Recycles Day, celebrated on November 15, prompted 154,000 Texans to submit a written pledge to recycle in 1996.

The Texarkana Rotary will host the group during its weekly luncheon at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel, 5301 North Stateline Road, Main Ballroom at 12:00 p.m. "A key component in our efforts at Keep Texarkana Beautiful is to instill the value of personal responsibility with respect to solid waste management and recycling issues. That means every citizen of Texarkana should be responsible for recycling and also for closing the loop by buying recycled-content products," said Jeannie Lee, Coordinator of Keep Texarkana Beautiful.

Proclaimed by Governor George W. Bush, this year's Texas Recycles Day theme is "Keep Recycling Working: Buy Recycled." Texans who pledge to start or increase recycling will be eligible for numerous prizes donated by Texas businesses. Pledge cards will be entered in a random drawing which features a grand prize of a $15,000 home improvement gift certificate from The Home Depot and the Steel Recycling Institute. For more information on pledging call Keep Texarkana Beautiful at 903-798-3900 or visit Internet site www.texasrecyclesday.org.
