H-E-B and Keep Texas Beautiful
Award Communities with Recycling Grants
(Austin, TX) – H-E-B and Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) recently announced that 11 communities will receive a share of $20,000 available through a grant program to support local, voluntary recycling activities. Grants awarded range in size from $1,000 - $3,000.
Winning projects include activities such as hosting a recycling-themed songwriting contest in schools, creating kits for teachers to implement recycling lessons in their classrooms, and creating a loaner program to provide recycling containers at local events. Many of the projects will be involved with Texas Recycles Day, held annually on November 15.
“Keep Texas Beautiful believes waste reduction is a key element to creating clean and beautiful communities,” Debbie Johnston, Keep Texas Beautiful president, said. “We are thrilled to partner with H-E-B to offer funding for local recycling endeavors. Whether it is through enhancing recycling programs or starting new projects, these grants will help KTB affiliates have a significant impact on their communities.”
“H-E-B is an environmentally proactive company that takes many steps to reduce waste. We are proud that we can help Texas communities do the same,” said Susan Ghertner, Manager of Environmental Affairs for H-E-B. Keep Texas Beautiful and H-E-B have partnered to offer environmental grants in the past, but this is the first time funding has been directly targeted towards recycling.
Keep Texas Beautiful , the statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement organization and affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, strives to educate and engage Texans to take responsibility for improving their community environment. KTB works with government, businesses, civic groups, and volunteers to ensure that every Texan has the opportunity to take individual responsibility for making Texas the cleanest, most beautiful state in the nation.
