Mentor of the Month: Kim Casey

By May 18, 2022No Comments

Kim Casey is the Executive Director of Keep Longview Beautiful. Keep Longview Beautiful is a 501(c)(3) organization run by Kim and 25 volunteer Directors.

As the only employee of Keep Longview Beautiful, Kim is involved in every part of the organization’s work. Keep Longview Beautiful is a busy community organization, so Kim keeps up with the day-to-day operations, communicates with Directors, makes sure projects are moving forward, and coordinates new ventures with all of the partners needed to assure success.

Kim has been a mentor for two years.

Why did you choose to become a mentor?

I became a mentor because I love being the Executive Director of Keep Longview Beautiful, and I hope I can impart some of the jewels (good and bad!) we have learned over the years to folks that are new to this setting or perhaps just need a minute for someone to stop, listen, and swap stories with them!

How often do you meet with your mentee?

I speak with my mentees at least once a month and often times much more than that. If they have questions or concerns, we try to take hold and figure matters out quickly, so they don’t become bigger issues! I have various levels of accomplishment with my mentees, but I see it important to help everyone, even if just in a small way. I always hope to help at least one person expand their reach in a positive way for their community.

What is your favorite part about being a mentor?

The month before last, my mentee hit a great milestone of getting 3 other people interested in being a part of their group. Three may sound small, but if you are all like-minded and focused on progression, three can be a powerful machine!

What is the hardest part about being a mentor?

The hardest part is trying to give my mentees the time they deserve. We run a busy organization and adding in another thing always takes time away from something else. However, I would not be a part of the mentor program if I hadn’t seen first-hand how the assistance mentors give to new affiliates or groups gives them a needed shot of energy.

How helpful are the KTB resources given to you when mentoring?

The resources spark ideas for me. A document or idea may not fit in at that particular moment, but I feel confident I can reach into that resource bag and come out with a handful of ways to help others!

Mentor Program Information

Are you interested in connecting with a more seasoned affiliate to help learn the ropes of KTB and get inspired with new ideas? Are you an affiliate who’s ready to pass along your knowledge to other up and coming affiliates? Each mentee is paired with a mentor for at least one year and reaches out to provide guidance at least four times during the year. If being a mentee is something you’re interested in, please fill out this brief form so we can best match you with an appropriate mentor. If you would like to get started on becoming a mentor, please fill out this form or contact Sara Walters at swalters@ktb.org for more information
